SHINEDOWN release their new album ‘Amaryllis‘ on the 26th of March and in anticipation oof the release, the band have revealed the official video for their killer single from the album, ‘Bully‘. The stunning video was directed by Darren Doane and you can check it out on Kerrang!’s website by clicking here.
Darren is a filmmaker and music video director from California and as well as directing music videos, he also directed two live action short film adaptations of the Malibu Comics superheroes Hardcase (a four minute music video style promo starring British kickboxer Gary Daniels) and Firearm (bit of music video / comic crossover trivia for you there!). Darren has directed videos for the likes of Blink 182, AFI, All That Remains. Deftones, Jimmy Eat World, UNDEROATH and many more bands.
The track ‘Bully‘ combines modern day ‘ripped from the headlines’ type sentiments of kids tragically committing suicide as as result of school bullying mixed with the band’s own personal experiences of dealing with bullies when they were younger. Spinning it in a positive direction, the song reveals that even though the vicious cycle continues, there’s always a way to rise up and overcome: “We don’t have to take this, back against the wall / We don’t have to take this, we can end it all”.
After ‘Bully’ was released, Myers took to his personal Facebook page to talk about the track, and the personal connection he has with it, “When you write a song with such a serious and sometimes controversial topic most feel you have to tread lightly and watch what you say. On this one we didn’t really feel like that,” admits Myers.
He talked about his own experiences with bullying in detail and then the light at the end of the tunnel. “I made it out alive,” said Myers, “Bullying in those days weren’t as bad as it has gotten now. There are kids who take their own lives because they feel there is now way out…STAND UP! If you know someone getting bullied or your kids are bullying someone ELSE, get involved! This HAS to stop!”
‘Bully’ serves as a true call to arms to anyone who’s ever been affected by bullying. While it’s not SHINEDOWN’s heaviest song to date, it still packs a punch and delivers on impact with a loud and clear message: “All you’ll ever be is the fading memory of a bully”.

KOí¿N‘s Jonathan Davis was interviewed by Radio Metal about the band’s latest album ‘The Path Of Totality‘ and how the band began the process of fusing Metal with Dubstep. See below for some extracts:
Radio Metal: You stated in Kerrang magazine that you were tired of hearing people calling you “the godfathers of nu-metal” and that you didn’t want to join the nostalgia circuit. But as a matter of fact, Remember Who You Are was an old school, kind of back to the roots album from Korn. Does this mean in a way that this album was made out of pressure from people who were expecting that from you rather than a real creative desire?
Jonathan Davis: For us as a band, it’s just all really about innovating and trying to do different things. When we did the Korn III record, that was also an experiment to see what it’d be like working with Ross [Robinson, producer] again. We’ve always experimented. We’ve been a band for 18 years and we had a lot of fun doing this record. It was so different and we had so much fun doing it.
Radio Metal: Your new album The Path Of Totality came out only a year after Remember Who You Are, as if there was a creative urge that the later didn’t completely satisfy. Is this what happened?
Jonathan Davis: Why did we put the album out so quickly? Well, we just did. This is what happened. We feel it, we just start writing songs, I write constantly, still. The whole year of touring I was writing. And doing everything is just cool, I mean we decided to make music and put it out there. We’re not one of those bands that goes five years between records.
Radio Metal: How do you make such two different musical worlds, metal and dubstep, work together? I guess a metal band such as Korn has a very different way of working compared to dubstep artists such as Skrillex?
Jonathan Davis: No there are a lot of similarities there, there really is. Dubstep music is really heavy. Some of those sounds were just so heavy that we thought it would work so we wanted to experiment. We didn’t know if we were going to make an album or what we were going to do but when we got with Skrillex we did a few soungs and once we got there, “fuck the EP let’s do a whole album, I guess we’ll work with all these different amazing producers”.

‘Enslaved‘ was recently reviewed by ThisIsNotAScene and you can see an extract from that review below:
‘Enslaved’ features some of the heaviest songs Soulfly has ever written. Tracks like ‘Legions’ ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Redemption of Man by God’ featuring Dez Fafara (DevilDriver, Coal Chamber) crush skulls and promise to break bones in the live arena and prove that Max can still pen an absolute beast of a tune when he puts his mind to it.
