You may recall us posting news about a Twitter feud that funny man DOUG STANHOPE got into with The Daily Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson recently – click here to read more – well, Doug has posted a response to Allison’s articles about him and you can read the introduction to his response below:
I can’t imagine that Allison Pearson has any friends within her profession. Otherwise someone would sit her down and stop her from making such a buffoon of herself repeatedly in a national newspaper.
Allison Pearson is a columnist for the UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph. She has also written two romance novels, a feat as impressive as a songwriter landing a jingle for a toilet paper commercial.
A few weeks ago here a man named Tony Nicklinson made the news with his fight with the High Court for the right to die. Mr Nicklinson is what they call a Tetraplegic. He’s 53 and his mind works perfectly but he is trapped in his body and can only communicate by blinking his eyes. He’s been there for 6 years. In short, Mr Nicklinson is as fucked as you can get.
His story made national news here and Allison Pearson followed it up with a half-assed, empty-calorie, op-ed piece disparaging not just the right to die but seemingly Mr Nicklinson himself.
She had very little or nothing of any bolstered argument on the issue, only snide, condescending personal jabs at the expense of a man who can only communicate by blinking his eyelids.
She suggests he should just starve to death if it’s so bad. She suggests he just go off his meds and hope for an infection, like some cruel version of Mother’s Home Remedies. All in the most sarcastic, condescending tone.
She suggests he just make the best of it like Stephen Hawking.
Vulgar.

Newly signed to Roadrunner Records, ROYSEVEN are ready and waiting to unleash a fresh set of songs on the UK public. ‘You Say, We Say’ is a predominantly up-tempo and hook-driven affair with sing-a-long choruses and catchy narratives about night clubs (‘I Need To Know Your Name’), sleeping with strangers (‘No Romance’), television evangelists (‘Channel 103 On My TV’), and horror movies (‘Killer’). The sonic backdrop of the album is made up of driving guitars, synth riffs, and signature percussion patterns, with an equal measure of rock and pop sensibilities throughout.
“There was a completely different mindset lyrically this time”, says frontman Paul about writing the new album. “The first record was about loss, but this is more about hedonism, going out, rediscovering who you are, and meeting more people. It’s the polar opposite of the first record.”
Upon release in Ireland, the album peaked at #1 on the iTunes chart. Earlier this month, the band won the prized accolade of ‘Song Of The Year’ for lead track ‘We Should Be Lovers’ at the Meteors (the Irish equivalent to the BRIT Awards and the Grammys) – a welcome follow-on from their previous ‘Hope For 2007’ Meteor Choice Music Prize a few years back. The most played Irish song on Irish radio last year (topping the likes of U2 and Snow Patrol), ‘We Should Be Lovers’ will be the first single released in the UK from ‘You Say, We Say’, available digitally from April 8.

“I was extremely proud of Halestorm when we released it, and I still love it, but I think I was using mostly one musical technique throughout. We were on ‘ten,’ and we blew through the songs in a safe way – or as safe as something that goes, ‘I get off on you getting off on me’ can be. This new record demonstrates more depth and heart. It’s a lot more expressive and really lets down the barriers.”
You can check out the series of webisodes featuring Lzzy and Arejay that we have revealed over the last few weeks below. Enjoy!
