In case you missed the news, Ten Ton Hammer announced their first London show in ten years. The band will play London’s King’s College on Wednesday June 6th and you can get your hands on tickets by clicking here.
Guitar master extraordinaire SLASH teamed up with the US store Walmart for a special ‘Walmart Soundcheck Session‘ recently to perform 6 tracks, including some tunes from his brand new album ‘Apocalyptic Love‘. The setlist consisted on Ghost, Mean Bones, Back From Cali, Standing In The Sun, Starlight and You’re A Lie. Click here to watch the full set!
SLASH also discussed the secret behind the recording of his new album:
When it comes to rock ‘n’ roll delivery, the best way to do it is the same way that you would do it live, which is as spontaneous and in the moment as possible. That’s how the record was done.
He went on to summarise a few other essential points about the album and his career in music:
On His Advice To Rockers:
“It’s hard for me to give advice except for just to be focused and smart and completely dedicated. You have to be very committed and stay on top.”
On His New Album’s Title:
“I didn’t want to call it ‘Slash Two.’ ‘Apocalyptic Love’ was sort of this tongue-in-cheek subject that Myles [Kennedy] had come up with about love on the eve of the apocalypse, basically. I thought that would make a good title.”
On The Magic Of Playing Live:
“Making a rock ‘n’ roll record where you’re really depending on the dynamics between the musicians and the chemistry and the interaction is an integral part of what rock ‘n’ roll actually is.”
On Embracing Technology:
“I never want to be seen as one of those guys that sounds like they’re knocking the evolution of where technology is going. It’s all great. You just can’t lean on it; you can’t make it a crutch. We take advantage of everything that’s out there – but we use it sparingly and we use it in places where it doesn’t affect the integrity of your band’s performance.”
The Classic Rock fanpack came out on Monday and the standard physical CD will be released on the 18th of June in the UK (Roadrunner Records). You can buy ‘Apocalyptic Love’ from iTunes NOW by clicking here.

SOULFLY have announced a couple of UK shows in July, as part of their European summer festival run. These low-key shows were originally intended as part of a UK cluster that included a slot on the now-cancelled Sonisphere Festival this year, but the band still wanted to come play these dates, when many other bands were cancelling whole runs.
The dates come in support of their eighth studio album, ‘Enslaved’, which is available at Amazon, Play.com and iTunes.
While many artists barely make it to a third album, Max Cavalera is still going strong over two decades in and 2012 also marks SOULFLY‘s 15th anniversary of making a tribally-influenced metallic racket. The powerhouse line-up has received a shake-up and now features Max and long-standing guitar dynamo Marc Rizzo, with Static-X’s Tony Campos taking up the bass. The ranks are rounded out by new drummer David Kinkade, formerly of Borknagar, whose brutality behind the kit brings a further extreme dimension to the band’s sound.
Dates line up as follows:
Wed 4th Jul – SOUTHAMPTON Talkin’ Heads
Thu 5th Jul – PLYMOUTH White Rabbit
Fri 6th Jul – OXFORD O2 Academy
Tickets are on sale now from all usual agents and online at www.kililive.com.
