MusicRadar has joined forces with the friendly-types at Epiphone, as well as their sister magazines Total Guitar and Metal Hammer, to bring you an amazing Robb Flynn competition.
The frontman of Californian metal stalwarts MACHINE HEAD has recently teamed up with Epiphone to design a brand new baritone signature guitar, christened the Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying V. It’s said to be Epiphone‘s lowest and heaviest guitar ever – a no frills bruising metal machine worthy of its namesake. The Baritone Flying V design is the first of its kind for Epiphone and indeed the entire Gibson family.
In celebration of this significant advancement in metal guitar brutality, MusicRadar are offering one lucky winner the chance to design a decal for Robb Flynn‘s very own Love/Death Baritone Flying V, which will be presented to him by Epiphone later this year. The winner will have their design featured on one of Robb’s own touring guitars and bag an Epiphone Robb Flynn Love/Death Baritone Flying V, signed by the man himself. BOSH!
In addition, three runners-up will also win signed Love/Death Baritone Flying Vs. SO MANY AWESOME PRIZES!
To enter the competition just follow the steps below:
Pick up a copy of Metal Hammer or Total Guitar magazine and pull-out the Machine Head/Epiphone tear sheet. This will contain the design page, featuring the blank decal template. Alternatively, you can download the template from www.epiphone.com/robbflynncompetition.
Sharpen your pencils, chew your crayons and draw your design on the template.
Post your design to Epiphone Comp, Future Publishing, 2 Balcombe Street, London NW1 6NW. Alternatively, you can scan your design and upload it to www.futurecomps.co.uk/epiphone.
The closing date for competition entries is 12pm BST on Friday 27 July, so make sure they’ve received your entry by then.
The winners will then be announced by Robb Flynn himself on the Epiphone Facebook page on 17 August, as he signs the prize guitars!

Australia’s The Amity Affliction, selected as one Alternative Press’ Top 100 Bands You Need to Know About in 2012, have entered a Florida studio to work on their proper Roadrunner Records debut, Chasing Ghosts.
Chasing Ghosts is scheduled to be released on September 17. It follows the band’s previous album Youngbloods. The Amity Affliction are holed up in the studio with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Falling In Reverse, Escape The Fate, Incubus) as they prepare their latest release.
Frontman Joel Birch checked in from the studio to shed a little light on the process, saying, “Recording with Elvis has been the most amazing experience for Amity since we began making records eight years ago. It’s incredible. We came into this record more prepared than we ever have before as well, so everything is coming together really, really well.”
Birch further stated, “We’re all loving the new songs. It feels like there is an entire album of awesome songs that we love which hasn’t happened prior to this; we’ve finally written an album we are proud of from start to finish, no filler whatsoever.” The singer also commented on the lyrical direction of Chasing Ghosts, revealing, ” I’ve tried to write my thoughts in a manner that can connect with people on an even more personal level than I did on Youngbloods, and I’m proud that the substance and depth hasn’t been lost or compromised, or watered down.”
Alternative Press lauded the band for its “brutally honest racket,” saying, “While you can waste as much time as you want throwing labels such as post-hardcore, scream, or metalcore at the Australian quintet, all that matters is they writer honest songs with tons of hooks and some serious bite.”
Loudwire.com also pointed out the band’s knack for “mixing hard-hitting hardcore and melodic rock with sing-scream vocals,” while ARTISTdirect praised the band as “Modern heavy metal at its finest…Amity Affliction are the most exciting band of 2012. Combining gnashing riffs a la Killswitch Engage and hooks that rival Deftones, Amity Affliction are primed to take over.”
